Radiant Pavilion \u2013 Melbourne Contemporary Jewellery and Object Biennial<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radiant Pavilion returns for its sixth edition, presenting Australian and international contemporary jewellery and object practice across Naarm\/Melbourne. With more than 300 artists participating in 59 events, this year\u2019s program continues to reflect the breadth of approaches, materials, and ideas within the field.

Through exhibitions, talks, workshops, performances, urban interventions and roaming presentations, artists explore the many roles jewellery and objects play in our lives. Questions of identity, belonging and connection sit alongside cultural narratives, memory and our relationships with the environments we inhabit and care for.

Since 2015, Radiant Pavilion has provided a point of connection for the creative community, creating opportunities to meet, collaborate, exchange ideas and present work in new ways. SCAN, a durational contemporary jewellery project presented on the nine days of Radiant Pavilion, each day, a new micromosaic jewellery object will be released, a cumulative series that unfolds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing on the historic micromosaic tradition of 18th century Italy, where glass tesserae depicted ruins and flora imagery as wearable souvenirs. This jewellery object project deliberately disrupts the genre\u2019s symbolism and technical perfection. Historic micromosaics functioned as portable memory objects, preserving romanticised images of sites of Rome for Grand Tour travellers. In contrast, SCAN proposes the contemporary souvenir as unstable, fragmented, and incomplete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each piece uses QRs and barcodes, leaving voids where tesserae are absent. Substrates remain visible, compositions are interrupted, and imagery dissolves into gaps. QR codes rendered in glass tesserae, incomplete, unscannable, transforming today\u2019s digital iconography into a new form of ruin. Historic mosaics monumentalised architecture, these works monumentalise data, questioning what data we choose to access and share.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
